I'm starting to think mind is foundational, divided only between consciousness and subconsciousness. A lot of idealists say "consciousness" is the foundation but I can't buy that, there's too much going on far beyond the realm of conscious awareness/experience.

Consciousness is the state of not being unconscious either (a) at all or (b) of something in particular.

I know it seems like I'm cheating or being glib but if you try out the definition you'll find it serves rather well.

You may insist that I define "not unconscious" but if we're being honest with one another you'll acknowledge that I don't need to do that, because we all know exactly what it means.

Now if you ask me to explain the genesis of not being unconscious, I'll have no provable answer, which will make me no different from anyone else who has ever lived since the dawn of humanity.

I do, however, have an UNprovable answer.

Not charity nor timidity but INDIFFERENCE.
Through INDIFFERENCE, strength.
Through strength, power.
Through power, victory.
Through victory I break my chains.
INDIFFERENCE sets me free.
